It is difficult to obtain good detailed (greater than 1:500.000) up-to-date printed maps of Portugal. You will often find that the village or small town you are looking for does not appear on the map (even if some even smaller hamlets do), and it is not uncommon to have a village shown on a map but not the road by which you get to it!
