How can one get rid of these processionary caterpillars, so they do not return. We get this problem every year. I understand there is a spray but don´t know what it is, or there is a band to put round the trunk. Can you help?
Thank you.

From CORNISHPASTY:

There are 2 medicines:

LEPICORTINOLO (WHICH IS PREDNISOLONA) which has been on here before but this is the name the pharmacy know it as you can get it in 5, 10, 20 mg tablets first dose was 20mg administered asap our dog was 10kg in weight

today we have had to give it to him again must be at the same time 12.5 mg

These tablets can be dissolved in warm water as they are soluable and we got a syringe to put it in this is the easiest way.

These must be given asap after symptons as they stop the poison and stop the rotting tongue (which is very unpleasant)

STOMORGYL this is for infections and you give them 1 tablet straight away and every 24 hours this is a veternary product the other one can be used on humans.

Both can be bought at the pharmacy cost 1st one 3.20 euros for 60 x 5mg tablets

the second 10 tablets 13.05 euros

Hope this helps if you ever need it for minimum cost I would get some to keep in case especially the first one and maybe split a pack of the second one with friends and keep a couple each

the 1st one can be used on humans.

From PatR:
I've been told by our vet (english speaking too) that although they are very unpleasant, its not as deadly as everyone thinks, but you do need to be aware and have the right medication with you. It's Prednisolone, if you give it straight away the tongue doesnt swell too much and it makes the survival chances very good indeed. But you must be aware of the symptoms, small white spots in the mouth and on tongue, excessive drooling and 'chomping' this must be treated ASAP.
